Current Projects underway in London

Some of the major projects which are currently underway – as in ‘nearly started’ to ‘nearly ready for use’ include:

  • Completion of Crossrail – east / west.
  • Start of Crossrail 2 – north / south – with development along the route.
  • HS2 rail line setting off from Euston area to Birmingham and some places beyond; and taking in Heathrow airport; all possibly.
  • Tideway – to upgrade main sewers after nearly 150 years.
  • Battersea area redevelopment.
  • Kings Cross and St. Pancras stations, transport hubs and surrounding mixed developments of residential, commercial, education, entertainment and leisure.
  • Old Oak redevelopment.
  • Park Royal upgrade and redevelopment.
  • Canary Wharf – continuing development.
  • Refurbishment of the Houses of Parliament.
  • London Legacy Development Corporation for post Olympics and East London.
  • Additional airport capacities at Heathrow or Gatwick or both plus other.
  • Thames Estuary – on the north side in Essex and south side in Kent.
  • Security arrangements – for public and private spaces and places, physical and virtual.
  • Technology development, applications and use across all sectors.
  • Changes to the High Street and to Out of Town shopping through changes in shopping habits through internet shopping activity.
  • Moving to a cashless society.
  • Upgrading and replacement of gas, electrical and water utilities – with broadband – with road traffic disruption.
  • Prosperity and survival outside of the European Union.
  • And certainly more housing – of all kinds.
